Dog Lesson

 

Now we know a little more about the dog

and the one good reason to buy such a thing.

 

I hope she got that right,

because the terrier fell

to its death,

littered our house

with death’s symbols

and smells &

left two loving boys

prepping for something bigger.  

 

I guess she had reread a book

which led her not back to God,

but futher,                further out.

And the one good reason she once said:

‘was to give things more than they deserve.’

 

I think the boys got that right,

for they have forgiven her

and her selfish end.  

But they’d trade it all in

for one sunny afternoon

chasing that terrier through the woods &

one last lesson against her cheek.
